Address:Tiigi 11, Tartu
Architects:1880–1881, Rudolf von Engelhardt
The Tiigi Community Center is a subunit of the city of Tartu, the purpose of which is to preserve and develop local cultural traditions and to enrich and diversify Tartu’s cultural life through its activities. The community center is located at Tiigi 11, partially situated on the slope of the former Oettingen family residence, adjacent to the moat, which served as the Tartu Health Workers’ House after World War II. The residence was built by Alexander Konstantin von Oettingen, the dean of the Faculty of Theology at the University of Tartu and a professor of theology, between 1880 and 1881. The two-story Neo-Gothic brick building was designed by Rudolf von Engelhardt, a nephew of A. K. von Oettingen. Although the building suffered damage during World War II, much of the original floor plan and some original interior elements have been preserved.
